1927 - 2005
Sarah Holcomb, 77, of Alice, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Holzer Medical Center.
She was noted for her homemade bread. At home, she known for her self-sacrifice and ability to provide for her family when the odds were against her.
She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, embroidering, and playing the piano and guitar. For many years, Sarah took care of others in her role as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Vinton.
She was born July 17, 1927, at Cutler, Washington County, Ohio, daughter of the late John Jarvis and Lydia Jane Norris Jarvis.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and five sisters.
Sarah is survived by eight children, Paul B. (Karen) Holcomb of Taylor, Mich., Marion E. Holcomb of Vinton, John F. Holcomb of Alice, Donald R. (Henrietta) Holcomb of Alice, Karen K. Beaseley of Cardington, Penny L. (Ray) Hamlin of Marengo, Gregory D. (Kathy) Holcomb of Vinton, and Tammi J. (Frank) Crowell of Thornville; and 20 grandchildren, 27 great-granchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was known as “Aunt Darb.”
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home in Vinton, with the Rev. Denver McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Liberty Cemetery in Washington County. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005.
