Mr. Leo A. McWhorter, age 90, of 1000 County Rd. 247, Fruithurst, AL passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006. Mr. McWhorter was born in Cleburne County on March 20, 1916. He was the son of the late John McWhorter and the late Essie Buttram McWhorter. Besides his parents, Mr. McWhorter was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Headrick McWhorter; one son, Owen Kenneth McWhorter; and one grandson, Ricky Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Cain McWhorter of Fruithurst, AL; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Doris McWhorter of Fruithurst, AL; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and H.B. Phillips of Buncombe, GA, Dianne and Otis Allred of Fruithurst, AL, Cindy and Mark Hudson of Oxford, AL; one step-son and step daughter-in-law, Doug and Debbie Williams of Bessemer, AL; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 3:00 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time) from the Mount Paran Baptist Church in Fruithurst, AL with Rev. Wayne Pike and Rev. David Ginn officiating. Music will be rendered by the Mount Paran Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow in the McWhorter Family Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Vincent Phillips, Ryan Allred, Owen McWhorter, Ludie Griffith, Micah McElroy, Jason Tyree, Johnny Wright and T.J. Williams.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, April 3, 2006 from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. (Eastern Standard Time). The remains will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the funeral.
