Mrs. Velma Bertha Burdette Woody, age 86, of 100 Katie St., Temple passed away at her residence Monday, April 17, 2006. Mrs. Woody was born in Haralson County on September 6, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Jim Burdette and the late Minnie Morris Burdette and the step-daughter of the late Ralph William Taylor. Mrs. Woody was preceded in death by her husband of over seventy years, Phillip Burdine Woody who passed away in 2004. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jesse James Woody; grandparents; parents; step-father; and a brother, James Burdette. Mrs. Woody was a life long member of Union Hill Methodist Church and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all she met. A Christian whose gift to be a peacemaker and to love everyone changed many lives.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Rudolph Eaves of Temple, Geraldine and Bert Adams of Cedartown, Janice and Randy Wright of Bremen and Sadie and Nelson Shelnutt of Temple; one sister and brother-in-law, Jimmy and Dorothy Taylor-Houston of Bremen; one brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Marie Burdette of Holy Pond, AL; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Agan Burdette of Carrollton; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; and a number nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. from the Oak Hill Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Clarence Agan, Rev. Nelson Shelnutt and Rev. Shae Tallent officiating. Music will be rendered by Tina Summerville and Carolyn Loveless. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Keith Henderson, Vernon Eaves, Adam Downs, Jerry Houston, Raymond Wright and Shawn Fletcher.
