Dr. Thomas P. Price, Jr., of Gallipolis, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Dr. Price was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He completed his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University and received his medical degree from Northwestern in 1950. He completed his internship at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, followed by his residency at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati General Hospital and Wayne University, City of Detroit Receiving Hospital in 1955.
During this time he was commissioned at the Pentagon and served in the Korean War as a captain in the United States Air Force at Hill Field near Ogden, Utah.
He was an OB/GYN at Holzer Clinic and Holzer Hospital for over 34 years and continued practicing at the Medical Plaza in Gallipolis. He was a member and lay reader at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Gallipolis.
Some of the many of Dr. Price's accomplishments include the following: Member Phi Delta Theta, Social Fraternity; Member of Phi Rho Sigma, Medical Fraternity; American Medical Association; Ohio State Medical Association; Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; Member of Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; Diplomat of American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; Councilor, Ninth District for Ohio State Medical Association; Member of Gallia County Medical Society; and Past President and member of Gallia County Rotary Assocation.
In addition to his parents, Thomas and Alice Price, he is preceded in death by a brother Joe Price.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Sue Price, and children Shawn (Mike) Sergent, Brad (Kelley) Poff, Tom (Sally) Price, Shelley (Lou) Horvath, Richard Price, Phil (Samantha) Price, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by a sister and brother in law, Ed and Marion Hanson of Kingsport, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4th at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 541 Second Ave., Gallipolis, with Father Myers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Peters Episcopal Church in Gallipolis.
