I WILL ALWAYS HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF HER. SHE WAS MY FIRST AND SECOND GRADE TEACHER AT RIO GRANDE ELEMENTARY. IN THE SECOND GRADE I WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR 47 DAYS AND SHE CAME WITH MY HOMEWORK EVERYDAY SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO MISS ANY OF MY SCHOOLWORK. SHE WENT BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HER FOR THAT. CONNIE BURCHETT PALMER

I am writing to send my condolences to the family of Irene Brannon. Mrs. Brannon was my first grade teacher in 1946. I was one of her students in her first teaching job at Rio Grande, Ohio. In July, I was happy to be able to return to Rio Grande to celebrate my 50th high school reunion. In the afternoon, before our dinner, four of us from her first class had the amazing experience of being able to visit with her. We took photos and had a great time of talking and remembering her as a great teacher and wonderful friend. I was so pleased to find her still so sharp" even though her body seemed very frail. We were all thinking ahead to her 100th birthday on Oct. 5th. My sister called to tell me that just a couple of short weeks after I had had the wonderful visit, she had died. My, how glad I am that we had that last visit. Mrs. Brannon was one the "giants" in my life and I have always thought that what she gave me as a start in life in the first grade, has been to my benefit all of these years. I will remember her always and keep her dear in my heart. Sincerely, Mary Lou (Miller)Tenney 220 Banks Rd. Brooktondale, NY 14817 Tel: 607-277-6510 E-mail: rwt1@cornell.edu

I learned only today (August 12) of Irene's passing. She was always one of my favorite people at Rio Grande. When she lived across the street from the URG campus, she often brought me cookies she had baked. Irene was a strong lady who undoubtedly was a wonderful teacher. One could sense these characteristics about her. I've talked with many of her former students, in fact, who had great respect and love for her. Irene loved Rio Grande and Calvary Baptist Church. She will be missed by the entire community. My condolences to her entire family. I am so grateful to have known her. Barry Dorsey Former President, URG

I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of Irene's death. She was such a wonderful person. We grew up next door to her & Homer, and she was one of the nicest people I ever met. I hadn't been able to see her in several years since my husband & I moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. I never forgot her though. Please know I'm thinking of the family during this difficult time. God Bless.
