Mr. Collis “Bud” Simpson passed away on August 29, 2005. Mr. Simpson was born in Randolph County, Alabama on December 3, 1915, to the late James and Mattie Traylor Simpson. He was a graduate of Woodland High School. He attended Auburn University and Jacksonville State University, playing on the football team at both schools. He was a disabled veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Simpson retired from the United States Department of Agriculture in 1980. He worked with farmers throughout the West Georgia area, dealing primarily with testing cows for disease.
He was a long-time member, Sunday school teacher, and Elder of the Pine Hill Christian Church in Pine Hill, Alabama.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Idell Simpson. Additional survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Roy Iverson of Tyus, GA; sons and daughters-in –law, Jack and Carrie Simpson of Newell, AL and John and Donna Simpson of Bowdon, GA; five grandchildren, Tim and Deanna Iverson of Carrollton, GA, Jason and Kim Simpson and Jacki and Clif Langley of Ranburne, AL, Cole Simpson and John David Simpson of Bowdon, GA; and three great-grandchildren: Jaycie and Kenslie Simpson and Max Iverson.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Jake Stewart Simpson, as well as brothers, Willie Simpson, Lem Simpson, Denson Simpson, Tom Simpson, Albert Simpson, and Barney Simpson, and sister, Gladys Traylor.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. CST, (3:00 p.m. EST), at Pine Hill Christian Church in Pine Hill, Alabama. Mr. Ralph Posey will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. (CST).
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 30, 2005, from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. (EST).
