Mrs. Nena Word, age 90, of 1241 West Highway 166, Bowdon, Georgia died Friday January 13, 2006 in Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.
She was born in Carroll County, Georgia on May 14, 1915 the daughter of the late William Judson and Emma Lou Huie Gamble. She was a member of Bowdon First United Methodist Church and was a retired Teacher at the Woman’s College of Georgia in Milledgeville, Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dr. John James Word, M.D., brother, William B. Gamble, and a sister, Kathleen Gamble Wright.
Survivors include a son John James Word, Jr. of New York City, New York; a daughter, Sarah Lynn Word Miller of San Diego, CA; 2 grandsons, David Stuart Miller and Michael Scott Miller; and 5 Great-Grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, James Grady Gamble of Atlanta, GA, and a sister, Christine Camp of Atlanta, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday January 15, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. from the Bowdon First United Methodist Church with Rev. Darryl Hessel officiating. Piano music will be rendered. Pallbearers will be Joe Moore, Hugh Ayers, John Prater, Glenn Barrett, Ricky McWhorter and Walter Nelson. Interment services will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday January 14th from 4-6 P.M. The remains will be at the funeral home until being placed in state at the church at 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
