Retired Fire Chief Clyde Merrell West age 81 of 93 Reavesville Road, Bowdon, Georgia died Thursday, October 6, 2005 in Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.
He was born in Lawrence County Tennessee July 5, 1924 the son of the late Benjiman Joseph and Gladys Byrd West. Mr. West was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in (Cleburne County Alabama) was an Army veteran of World War II and received 2 Purple Hearts and was a retired Carroll County Fire Chief at Bowdon Station 6.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers J.K. West and Hoyt West.
Survivors include his wife Betty Copeland West of Bowdon, GA. Daughters and Sons-in-Laws Shirley Ann (Larry N.) Ross of Carrollton, GA. Sarah (Nicky) Phillips and Melinda (Philip) McIntyre all of Bowdon, GA. Son Dennis Merrell West of Bowdon, GA. 10 Grandchildren Cynthia Lewis (Mac), Thomas Edward Ross, Amanda Born, Kyle McIntyre, Carrie Phillips, Ty McIntyre, Jacob West, Kevin West, Kaley McIntyre and Rachel West.6 Great-Grandchildren Austin Williams, Landon Williams, Jabe Born, Emily Born, Baylee Lewis and Allie Born. Brother L.D. West of Ranburne, AL. Sister Clara Jordan of Ranburne, AL.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 9, 2005 at 3:00 P.M. from the Rainwater Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Calvin Haney officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Glenn, Tommy Jackson, Robert Ballenger, Wendell McGuire, Lawrence Williams, Tracy Smith, Steve Chadwick and Jerry (Bud) Benefield. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Holloway, Mack Crosson, Craig Pate, Jerry Cosper, Shane Williams Denson Daniel and Burl Langley. Interment will follow in the Community Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6-9 P.M. The American Legion Post #143 of Carrollton, Georgia will fold and present the flag.
